Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Honors Gwinnett Coalition for Championing Nonprofits and Community Well-Being

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Aug. 19, 2025 – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation recognizing the Gwinnett Coalition in honor of National Nonprofit Day. The recognition affirms the Coalition’s leadership in convening cross-sector partners and championing nonprofits across Gwinnett.

“For more than three decades, the Coalition has been at the forefront of community development in Gwinnett,” said Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. “What truly sets them apart is their focus on nonprofit capacity building. They understand that by making our nonprofits stronger, they improve the health and well-being of our entire community. The Gwinnett Coalition’s work has created a ripple effect of positive change that benefits all Gwinnett residents, and their commitment to strengthening the organizations that serve our most underserved populations is paving the way for a healthier and more equitable future for everyone.”

Renée Byrd-Lewis, president and CEO of the Gwinnett Coalition, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the organization.

“We are deeply grateful for this recognition from Chairwoman Hendrickson and the Board of Commissioners,” Byrd-Lewis said. “This honor reflects not just our work, but the collective power of Gwinnett’s nonprofit sector. Every day, we see how collaboration and capacity building can turn challenges into solutions—and we remain committed to advancing equity, resilience, and health for all who call Gwinnett home.”

Founded in 1990, the Gwinnett Coalition exists to advance equity and community well-being. Its vision—an equitable, resilient and healthy Gwinnett—drives its three core pillars: health equity; mental and behavioral health; and nonprofit capacity building. The Coalition equips nonprofits with the resources, connections and knowledge they need to achieve greater community impact, guided by its 4S

Framework: Spaces for trust-building and innovation, Skills to strengthen operations, Squads for collective success, and Sustainability for long-term impact.

The Board of Commissioners commended the Coalition’s leadership in uniting cross-sector partners, aligning strategies, and tackling complex community challenges. Signature initiatives like Resilient Gwinnett bring organizations together to prevent trauma, promote positive childhood experiences, and integrate trauma-informed care into the fabric of community life.

National Nonprofit Day celebrates the vital role nonprofits play in strengthening communities across the nation. The Gwinnett Coalition’s work demonstrates how strategic collaboration, shared vision, and aligned action can transform local challenges into lasting solutions.
