What is Gwinnett Cares?

Our health equity initiative, Gwinnett Cares, aims to connect residents with community-based organizations that offer vital support, fostering prosperity during times of need.

Through collaboration with local nonprofits, we’ve effectively streamlined communication to reach Gwinnett’s population of over a million people. We inform our community about essential resources and services such as healthcare, food, housing, education, multicultural assistance, employment, and business resources.
Gwinnett Cares also plays a pivotal role in promoting vaccine education and ensuring health equity, linking all citizens to the necessary healthcare resources for them to lead their best lives.

Please note: Gwinnett Cares does not directly provide services or financial assistance. Our mission is to connect you with nonprofit agencies and service providers specialized in the areas where you require support.

Why do we focus on achieving Health Equity?

Access to healthcare is a fundamental right that should be available to everyone, regardless of their ethnic, socio-economic, cultural, gender, or nationality background. It is important that we strive for health equity, in which every individual in our society is provided with a just and equal chance to access healthcare.
However, not everyone enjoys equal access to healthcare. According to the 2022 National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report, non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native groups and Hispanic groups are significantly less likely to be insured.
It’s also important to note that individuals without insurance often lack a primary care provider and struggle to afford essential healthcare services and medications. Further studies have demonstrated that uninsured individuals are less likely than those with insurance to receive preventative care, as well as treatment for major health conditions and chronic diseases.

This is why we are dedicated to achieving health equity in Gwinnett County. We aim to provide Gwinnettians with the necessary information and connections needed to access affordable healthcare.

COVID-19 Resources in Gwinnett County

While the CDC has declared an End to the Federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, it’s important that we remain vigilant. Though free vaccines may be available while federal stockpiles last, COVID-19 vaccines will now be provided through health insurance. Uninsured and underinsured individuals can continue to receive free COVID-19 resources through CDC’s Bridge Access Program.

Remember, COVID-19 vaccines are both safe and effective. By getting vaccinated, you’re not only protecting yourself but also your loved ones and the community. Here is a list of essential COVID-19 resources and information:

Need a Replacement Vaccination Card?

If you received both doses of vaccine but did not receive a CDC vaccination card, you can receive one by visiting one of the Gwinnett health centers currently providing non-COVID immunizations. If you lost this documentation, our health centers can provide a copy of your immunization record.
