Strengthening Resilience and Equity in Health and Service Organizations

WHO? The Gwinnett Coalition is partnering with KINSHIFT to offer Strengthening Resilience and Equity in Health and Service Organizations trainings. KINSHIFT co-founders, Simran Chaudhri, MD, MPH and Kelly Davis, MPA, have worked extensively in medical and public health settings, and are experienced in providing customized training and learning collaboratives to help healthcare and nonprofit organizations engage in trauma-informed, health equity practices.

WHAT? A 2-hour virtual training session will be offered on two different dates and times. The content is the same in both sessions. Learning objectives include:
  • Establish a foundational understanding of common terms/language, such as stress, trauma, resilience, health equity, and spheres of oppression
  • Explain the relationship between racism, discrimination, and trauma
  • Identify strategies to build resilience, mitigate biases, promote healing, and promote equitable outcomes and a culture of care

WHERE? This will be a Zoom webinar. A link will be sent to registrants approximately 1 day before the training session for which they are registered. WHEN?
  • Wednesday, October 4, 6 – 8 pm
  • Tuesday, October 10, 9 – 11 am

WHY? Trauma does not spare any race, class, age, ability, gender, or sexual orientation. Unaddressed trauma has been associated with negative mental and physical health consequences long after the event, including anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer. Trauma can also be experienced and perpetuated by our systems and organizations, manifesting as poor communication and problem solving, burnout, and staff turnover. Combined with systemic racism, it leads ultimately to reduced quality of care and poor health outcomes. This training will provide a starting place for organizational leaders and team members who want to improve health outcomes for patients and clients by becoming trauma-informed organizations.

HOW MUCH? This training is offered to participants at $40 per person. Scholarships are available for a limited number of participants for whom cost is prohibitive. Please contact info@gwinnettcoalition.org for more information.
